I have been teaching for twelve years, since the age of 14, and pride myself on being a forward thinking, dynamic teacher who puts enjoyment through learning at the centre of all the tuition I provide. I offer lessons tailor-made to suit every individual student, giving them space to try out a wide variety of styles to find what they enjoy the most, while giving them the technical and musical tools to build their playing ability quickly and enjoyably. I place emphasis on improvisation and creativity over simple repetition of scored material, but I do ensure that, should the student wish, they can enjoy the more traditional 'reading and exams' teaching method. All students learn to read music, and are taught theory and a little history, but it's always fun! My experience has shown me that the most effective music tuition combines creativity, discipline and enjoyment, and that is what I aim to deliver.
I have been a musician my whole life, studying cello from age 7, piano from age 11 and vocals from age 13, plus guitar and saxophone. I have ABRSM Grade 8 in my disciplines and have recently been awarded a 1st Class BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship from the University of Sussex.
I currently teach in Eastbourne on Tuesdays and also teach from my studio in Hove on other days, but feel free to get in touch to see if we can find a day to suit you.

Cello (All ages):
Try cello with a twist! Cello has become a hugely popular instrument, in many types of music and for many artists, from Damien Rice to Apocalyptica - all creative and interesting takes on a traditional instrument. I teach classical technique and pieces as a starting point for all students, but for those who want to give it a try I incorporate popular song parts and improvisation, even a little jazz! The cello is an incredibly versatile instrument and is wonderful fun to play - I aim to allow students to experience that as quickly as possible when learning with me, so in addition to offering tutoring for ABRSM grade exams I offer my own syllabus combining classical and contemporary music and techniques. Cello is also a perfect starter string instrument for younger children as it is both easier to play than the violin and easier on the ears when played by those very young fingers! For anyone looking to learn this beautiful instrument, or for cellists looking to improve their skills, technique, or looking for a new direction, I can help you find what you are looking for.
